FAQ
Questions, answered.
The things customers ask before booking — quoting, packing, insurance, customs, storage. Don’t see your question? Email or call and we’ll answer in plain English.
Quoting & booking
- How do I get a quote?
- Email dayana.transports@gmail.com, message live chat, or call 07795 985 991. Tell us postcodes, rough volume, and your dates — we reply same-day with an itemised quote.
- Do you have an online price calculator?
- No — and we never will. Calculators give you a number that doesn’t include the things that actually cost: stairs, parking, access, fragile items, packing materials. We quote per-job, by email or phone, after a brief conversation.
- How early should I book a removal company?
- 2–6 weeks ahead is the sweet spot. August (especially the last Friday of August, the busiest day in the UK calendar) needs longer lead times. Same-week and same-day jobs are sometimes possible — call to check capacity.
- Do you require a deposit?
- No — we don’t ask for a deposit. You pay on or after move day, by card or bank transfer.
- What if my completion date moves?
- Common, and we plan for it. We can hold your goods on the truck overnight, move them to short-term storage at our London base, or rebook for a later date with no penalty if there is reasonable notice.
On move day
- Do removal companies pack for you?
- Yes. We offer full packing (everything packed by us), part packing (kitchen / fragiles only), or self-pack with materials supplied. Full pack typically saves 1–2 days of stress and reduces breakage risk.
- Do you dismantle and reassemble furniture?
- Standard. Flat-pack wardrobes, beds, dining tables, garden furniture, gym equipment — dismantled at origin and rebuilt at destination as part of the standard service.
- What time do you arrive?
- Usually 8:00–8:30am for full house moves; flexible for smaller jobs. We confirm a 30-minute window the day before and call if traffic shifts the ETA by more than 15 minutes.
- What won’t removal companies move?
- Hazardous goods (paint thinner, fuel, fireworks, ammunition), perishable food, plants on international routes, illegal items. Live animals are a separate specialist service. We will tell you in advance if anything in your inventory needs special handling.
- Do you take TVs?
- Yes — flat-screen TVs are wrapped and crated as standard. Plasma over a certain size travels on edge in a TV box; OLED panels are corner-protected. No surcharge.
- Do I tip removal men in the UK?
- Optional and entirely up to you. £20–£50 per crew member is a typical range for a happy customer; tea and biscuits across the day is also genuinely appreciated. Not expected.
Insurance & legal
- Are you insured?
- Yes — goods-in-transit cover and public liability insurance on every job, including small man-and-van work. High-value items (art, antiques, jewellery) can be separately scheduled at declared value.
- Are negotiable rates a thing?
- Quotes are itemised and reflect the actual cost of the job. We won’t pad and discount; we will price flexibility (off-peak weekday vs Friday-end-of-month) into the original number where it matters.
- What happens if something is damaged?
- Photograph it, hold any packaging, and let us know within 7 days. Damage claims are processed against the goods-in-transit cover; minor issues are often settled directly without a formal claim.
International moves
- How long does a European removal take?
- Sole-use road: Netherlands / Belgium / Northern France 2–5 days; Germany 3–7 days; Spain / Portugal / Italy / Romania 5–14 days. Groupage: 2–8 weeks depending on country and consolidation cycle. Air freight: 1–4 days.
- What is Transfer of Residence (ToR) relief?
- A duty exemption available in most destination countries when you’re relocating permanently and importing personal goods you’ve owned and used (typically) for 6+ months. It can save thousands of pounds in import duty. We help with eligibility and paperwork.
- Do I need customs clearance for moving to Spain / France / Portugal?
- Yes — every UK→EU move now requires export and import customs declarations. Country-specific paperwork (e.g. France’s "attestation de changement de résidence", Spain’s "cambio de residencia", Portugal’s "Transferência de Residência") is handled as part of the international service.
- Can you ship cars or motorbikes?
- Yes — but it’s a separate workstream with its own paperwork. Each EU destination has registration, environmental tax (e.g. Romania’s timbru de mediu, Netherlands’ BPM) and roadworthiness rules; we walk you through them.
Storage
- Can I access my stuff in storage?
- Yes, by appointment with 24 hours’ notice. We pull the container or pallet to a viewing bay rather than asking you to climb through the warehouse stack.
- How long can you store my goods?
- Anywhere from 1 week to several years. Storage is billed weekly with no minimum term, so you can release whenever you’re ready.
- Is my stuff insured while in storage?
- Insurance is available and recommended for long-term storage; we’ll quote alongside the storage rate based on declared value.
